Crap You’re Leaving Behind In 2015 (And What You Might Take Into 2016)

Crap You’re Leaving Behind In 2015 (And What You Might Take Into 2016)

It is time once again for my favorite year-end reflection ritual. I will spend time this week honestly assessing all of my life events of 2015. Many of my clients, family and friends participate in this annual ritual to yield insight and create space to celebrate the wins of this past year as well. “Tomorrow, is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one.” ― Brad Paisley via @Terri_Cole {CLICK TO TWEET} It can be tempting to plow into 2016 without missing a beat but I hope you choose, instead, to join us for a thorough and honest look back at 2015. New Year’s allows us to clean the slate. To help gain clarity on what needs to go and what you want to take with you to make 2016 what you want it to be, please do the exercise below. Create THREE separate lists: CRAP YOU’RE LEAVING IN 2015 Write down experiences, feelings, people, circumstances… anything that you do not want to drag with you into 2016. Share this list with a trusted friend who will witness without judgment. Then, burn the list SOMEPLACE SAFE so the energy attached to it can be released back into the universe and out of your experience. GEMS YOU’RE KEEPING FROM 2015 Write down what you learned from your experiences, good and bad. Once you honor what you learned, you won’t need to repeat the crappy situations. Even the worst experience has a gem. You just have to be willing to look through the crap to find it. Hold onto this list. WHAT YOU’RE CREATING IN 2016...
3 Ways to Ease Anxiety

3 Ways to Ease Anxiety

Anxiety is a normal human emotion that everyone experiences now and then. Many people feel anxious or nervous when faced with a problem at work, fear or worry about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome. Over 40 million Americans suffer from some kind of anxiety disorder. As a psychotherapist and coach for the past 18 years, I have been asked hundreds of times about how people can better handle their anxiety. Traumatic incidents from 9/11 to multiple school shootings to the financial crisis have made anxiety one of the most common disorders experienced in the United States, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. Anxiety disorders are highly treatable but only about one-third of people suffering seek help. At times, you flip out about small things. You sometimes experience rapid heartbeat, dry mouth and a sense that your legs may give out. You’re fearful for no apparent reason. You spend time worrying about things that have not happened but might. You feel constriction in your mind and body often. You have trouble relaxing and sometimes difficulty sleeping. When you suffer from anxiety it can be debilitating. If it goes unexamined or is misunderstood, it can suck the joy out of your life. Through you can learn how to identify and minimize your anxiety triggers along with many natural ways to soothe stress and mitigate anxiety so you can enjoy your amazing, one of a kind, life. How comfortable are you with the change process?

How comfortable are you with the change process?

Do you like where you are in this exact moment in the change process? Whether you answered yes or no, let me remind you: it’s about to change. In fact, it is changing this very instant! All of your life is a continuous state of transformation. From one second to the next your physical body is changing as well as the structure of your brain from an array of factors including meditation, learning new skills and integrating new information. The one thing you can COUNT on is that everything will CHANGE @Davidji_com via @Terri_Cole {CLICK TO TWEET} For some of you the idea of things changing may bring a sense of relief, while for others it can inspire fear. Perhaps you find yourself using denial to resist certain changes altogether. Even though the out of sight out of mind theory doesn’t work, it can still be tempting. Sometimes change is expected (getting another year older, buying a new home, graduating from college) while other times it may come as a surprise (a proposal, a pregnancy, a job offer or an unexpected death). Whether you regard it as good or bad, change can be challenging. A routine provides some with a sense of comfort and stability. A sense of mastery and security can come from life being somewhat predictable. No matter what we do to brace against it or hold onto the illusion that we can control it, change is inevitable. Even good change can feel bad and produce anxiety, simply because we are forced from the known into the unknown. When you become too attached to the familiar, you...
I want you to tap that … with Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

I want you to tap that … with Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

As a psychotherapist and transformation coach, I employ an array of healing modalities and strategies with my clients. Today I am sharing one of my faves, that I use with great success personally and with clients. It is called Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), which you may know as The Tapping Solution from my pals Nick, Alex and Jess Ortner. EFT emerged in the US in the early 60’s but the the self help practice of meridian tapping is ancient, used by many cultures and based on the Chinese meridian system. The way an acupuncturist uses needles on the meridians to alleviate physical issues, tapping on the meridians while feeling negative feeling, alleviates emotional issues. I discovered the power of EFT after earning- what I now refer to as- my PhD in Fear. Many of you know my, year of fear story, so I will not repeat the details. I will say that after a series of traumatic events, death of a parent, cancer diagnosis and being held up at gunpoint, I was paralyzed with fear. I used EFT, along with other trauma work, to free myself from the prison that fear had created. Now I teach thousands of clients and students how to transform their own fear into Freedom. I use several therapeutic modalities, including EFT, to help people decode and release fear. Tapping or EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) combines acupressure with psychotherapy to help clear out any negative energy that may be causing you physical, mental or emotional pain. This highly effective technique has helped hundreds of thousands of people all over the world learn to clear limiting...
How to STOP what’s stopping YOU

How to STOP what’s stopping YOU

What do you want to create in your life right now? Are you taking steps to create it? If not, why? I will make an educated guess that fear is part of the problem. It is the main reason my clients get stuck in any area of their lives. It presents as many other logical emotions so it tricks us. There is also an illusion, when you start comparing yourself to others, that some people are born under a lucky star and it all comes easily to them. I can tell you the inside scoop that many of the smartest, most successful and happiest people I know were born no different than you. The ones in my crew consciously and actively transformed their relationship to fear by becoming experts on themselves and the way their downloaded blueprints around fear were informing their decisions. Learning to see all of the masks and disguises that fear wears, helps to create clarity. Fearlessness is not possible and not the point. Understanding how you relate to fear is the key to getting unblocked. FEAR is a Tricky Bastard but Self Knowledge is POWER @Terri_Cole {CLICK TO TWEET} When contemplating building the life, business, body or relationship of your dreams everyone has the same excuses (different variations) as to why they can’t or shouldn’t. Timing will never be 100% right, it may never be practical to spend your money in that way and there will always be a chance that you will fail. Also there is always someone further along and therefore more experienced than you at what you want to do and so...
Creation and a VERY Special Opportunity

Creation and a VERY Special Opportunity

Welcome to 2015! Last year I resolved to maintain productivity while incorporating more personal balance in my life. This year is all about presence. My 2015 affirmation is #BeHereNow. When I remind myself to keep my head where my feet are I feel a sense of peace, ease and expansion. My worry and need to control drastically decrease and I am able to find joy in almost any experience. While I wasn’t always this clear on what I wanted to create in my life, I discovered two tools over the last decade that have made resolutions and goal setting not only easier, but a heck of a lot more fun! Last week’s Tune Up Tip was all about the ‘Crap You are Leaving Behind’ in 2014. Now that New Year’s Day has come and passed let’s dive right in to what you plan on creating in 2015. I am so excited to share with you the second part of my favorite year end tradition, as well as my #1 go-to manifesting tool! If you haven’t already cleared the crap you want to leave behind, please do. You can find that exercise right below this post. Otherwise grab paper and something to write with and use the step below to help you identify what you desire. GEMS YOU ARE KEEPING FROM 2014 Write down what you learned from your experiences, especially the ones that were painful or that you would consider negative. Once you honor what you learned, you won’t need to repeat the crappy situation. Even the worst situation has a gem. You just have to be willing to...
